Trading Places and Local Hero Essays
Exchanging Places and Local Hero Essays Exchanging Places and Local Hero Paper Exchanging Places and Local Hero Paper Article Topic: Film Exchanging Places is a film about differentiating individuals and how various individuals from assorted foundations can adjust to new environmental factors. The two principle characters are Lewis Winthorpe, a wealthy, effective specialist and Billy-Ray Valentine, a vagrant with no cash or assets. These two characters are placed into an outsider domain when they exchange puts and live every others lives, as the consequence of a wager between the two siblings who own the organization Winthorpe works for. Nearby Hero focuses more on the differentiation in physical condition. In this film MacIntire, who works for a huge oil organization in Texas, is sent to work in a little remote town in Scotland. Local people appear to be exceptionally loose and the pace of life is moderate, not normal for the bustling workers of the Texas oil organization. The film investigates how MacIntire progressively assumes the conduct of the new culture. The film Trading Places lays the right foundation toward the beginning by demonstrating instances of the two totally different universes it will investigate. For instance: a dose of an occupation place flat and occupied with fake lighting where just the backs of heads can be seen is trailed by a dose of Winthorpes kitchen The steward getting ready breakfast on a perfect, marble surface. Out of sight, new blossoms. In the film Billy-Ray Valentine is a homeless person who needs to brainstorm methods of bringing in enough cash for his next dinner. He attempts to hoodwink individuals into accepting that he is a war veteran who has lost his vision just as his legs. He strives to cause individuals to trust him with the goal that they will give him cash. He lives by his brains. Mr. Winthorpe, in any case, doesn't buckle down for his cash by any stretch of the imagination. He has never needed to stress over where his next supper will be originating from or even what shirt he will be wearing that day. He has a steward whose activity it is to do that for him. The principal bit of differentiation found in this film is that of the work environments of the two principle characters. Billy-Ray deals with a traffic intersection. It is messy. In spite of the fact that it is very occupied, individuals dont appear to give any consideration to him and attempt to abstain from strolling close to him on the asphalt. Winthorpes work environment is amazingly assorted. It has a great hall, receptionists work areas covering the dividers, all noting calls, doing administrative work. As he strolls through the swinging doors at the passage everybody makes proper acquaintance with him. Great morning Mr. Winthorpe How are you Mr. Winthorpe?. His private office is likewise huge. He has a major work area and a leaning back, cowhide seat. The dividers are confronted with wonderful artworks and in the corner, there is a couch for when he feels tired. The principal locating we get of Billy-Ray, he is wearing clothes. He has filthy garments on, shoes with gaps in and his entire appearance is grimy. Winthorpe is wearing the direct inverse. He has an overcoat with coordinating tie, a conveniently pressed shirt, squeezed pants and cleaned shoes. Because of the wager between the proprietors of the organization that Winthorpe works for, Billy-Ray Valentine and Lewis Winthorpe change places. The proprietors have various feelings about what makes a man fruitful. One has the possibility that if an individual, especially an individual of color, originates from a not off foundation, they will never be fruitful. Different has the direct inverse sentiment, that regardless of what your identity is, in the event that you are allowed the chance to do well throughout everyday life, you will. So they have a wagered on it. Medications are planted on Winthorpe and the police are educated. Winthorpe is captured and placed in prison and Billy-Ray Valentine is utilized to have his spot. Winthorpe loses his employment, his home and his ledger, which contains a ton of cash, and his vehicle. Billy-Ray is given everything. Probably the greatest distinction that the characters need to adapt to is the reality one has gone from being destitute to living in a house, while different has gone from the chateau to an existence of neediness. Billy-Rays home condition is presently lavish. He lives in a gigantic house with a mahogany flight of stairs, brimming with significant decorations and artworks. He eats his suppers in a stupendous lounge area, utilizing costly flatware. He has long loosening up showers in an enormous Jacuzzi with scented air pocket shower, and he dozes in a full-sized, four-banner bed. In the interim Winthorpe, on being discharged from prison, has no place and is decreased to living in a one room level which is claimed by another person. Billy-Ray presently has cash and Winthorpe is poverty stricken. From the start Billy-Ray battles to acknowledge his wealth strolling around the house, getting articles and placing them in his pocket to take them. Sooner or later he starts to acknowledge what he presently has and tells visitors, that he has welcomed round, to watch not to spill anything on his Persian floor covering. Winthorpe, be that as it may, never figures out how to adapt without cash. He thinks that its hard toward the start and much harder toward the end. Billy-Ray figures out how to adapt effectively in his new condition. His insight into individuals encourages him to progress admirably. Winthorpe then again can't deal with not having any cash or assets. Billy-Ray currently lives in a special world. He needs to settle on business choices however has no past business experience on which to depend on. Anyway his life on the road has given him instruction of an alternate sort. Winthorpe anyway had no past understanding on which to draw. His life had not instructed him to adapt to neediness or even how to do regular things. He had ended his life and cash for allowed. He was accustomed to getting regard due to what his identity was and had not so much needed to acquire it. He had indicated that he had an exceptionally low assessment of individuals who lived in neediness, which was the place he was currently, prior in the film when he accepted that Billy-Ray had taken his short case. Presently he is seeing things from an alternate perspective. Nearby Hero likewise has a story line where one man is placed into a totally unique physical condition to the one he is utilized to. This satire takes a gander at the contention between a Texas oil organization and the shrewd occupants of a Scottish angling town whose land is required by the Americans for their North Sea oil base. MacIntire needs to leave the feverish existence of working in Texas and proceed to work in Scotland. In Texas he works in an enormous office for a huge organization in a solid wilderness. The city is loaded with goliath high rises transcending most importantly. The streets are on the whole motorways, since quite a while ago, packed and with eager drivers. MacIntire is accustomed to working in a bustling office alongside numerous others. There are individuals consistently on the telephone, accomplishing paper work, with no an ideal opportunity to stop and take a gander at the stars. Everybody is working under tension. Be that as it may, presently he finds th e opportunity to leave Texas and work in the out entryways. A Scottish man, who is going to assist him with discovering his way around the territory he will remain, meets him at the air terminal. Straight away you can see a distinction in the presence of the two men. MacIntire, in formal attire, where as the nearby is wearing pants and a polo neck jumper. MacIntire is headed to where he will be remaining. They drive along winding streets that stretch for a significant distance, with no indication of residence, through beautiful valleys and over lavish green slopes. The sky is a blue/dim and in the far separation, the ocean. The region is so quiet. There are no different vehicles out and about and not an office obstruct in sight. While in Scotland MacIntire remains in a little Bed and Breakfast. Nearby is a little bookkeepers office. The bookkeeper that works in the workplace happens to be a similar individual that possesses the quaint little inn and goes from one to the next throughout the day. MacIntire accepts that the occupants of the angling town dont really know why he is there. He is calmed into accepting that the moderate pace of life implies that the individuals can't comprehend the haggling of the Texan partnership. Albeit loose, the residents are significantly more brilliant than MacIntire might suspect. They hold mystery gatherings and talk about some solution for their concern. MacIntire before long figures out how to like the pace of life on the island and comes to disdain the breaks from his manager in America. He invests energy simply strolling along the sea shore appreciating the perspective on the ocean and taking a gander at the stars. As the film advances you see a change in MacIntires appearance. He starts to wear polo neck jumpers rather than shirts and ties, as you have recently observed worn by the Scottish agents. He begins to have a beverage in the bar with local people as though he too was a neighborhood, and all together he appears to be less systematic. Before the finish of the film, MacIntire needs to remain in the tranquility of Scotland instead of come back to the bustling existence of Texas. I believe that both of these movies are compelling at putting over the complexity in various ways of life in their own specific manners. Exchanging Places has two businesspeople playing God with Billy-Rays and Winthrops lives, turning them around without a moment's notice. Nearby Hero shows the progressions of one man, MacIntire, as he remains in an outsider domain for longer timeframes. The two of them show people getting a knowledge into a totally unique lifestyle outside their past encounters, and the impact it has on them. Much of the time the individual has discovered that they really incline toward the other way of life to their own. Winthorpe, then again, doesnt lean toward his new life to the bygone one yet I think he presently acknowledges how hard a few people need to work for cash and how simple his life was for him previously.

Amyloid Hypothesis of Alzheimer Disease
Alzheimerââ¬â¢s sickness influences the cerebrum because of a regenerative issue. This at that point causes misfortune in memory, thinking and adjustment in personal conduct standards and is viewed as the biggest reason for dementia cases. The patients who are experiencing this malady require the arrangement of administrations from asset rich wellbeing offices (Pohanka, 2014). The most influenced populace is the old individuals albeit a little extent of youngsters are additionally influenced by Alzheimerââ¬â¢s ailment. This paper thusly investigates alzehaimers malady amyeloid speculation in regard to the advancement towards the improvement of treatment choices. The amyloid speculation contends that when the amyloid beta peptides happen in the mind tissues, they lead to the advancement of the Alzheimerââ¬â¢s infection. This peptide cause autosomal types of changes in three areas to be specific: presenelin 1, 2 and the amyeloid antecedent proteins. The relationship between this sickness and amyloid beta peptide was upon the assessment of cerebrum where plaques were found (Selkoe and Hardy, 2016). Along these lines, the amyloid course gives a clarification to the procedure by means of which the Alzheimerââ¬â¢s sickness happens. These incorporate the hereditary causes by means of changes, phenotypes and pathology just as the dangers in question. There have been helpful medications delivered to focus on this peptide in order to bring down its degrees of creation. This is relied upon to cause a leeway in the sums and levels of amyloid beta protein which thusly ought to decrease the accumulation of peptides to frame plaques. In any case, it isn't sure about the measure of the amyloid peptide which is found in the cerebrum. Something that should be noted is that the amyloid beta peptides are the essential parts of the hypochondriac plaques in the mind tissues of the patients who have Alzheimerââ¬â¢s infection. This is because of the way that various pieces of the cerebrum can convey various measures of the amyloid peptide and the Alzheimerââ¬â¢s ailment is regularly heterogeneous (Drachman, 2014). Another nearby relationship between this peptide and this infection is from the cloning of the quality which encodes beta amyloid forerunner protein just as its area in the chromosome number 21. Additionally, it has been discovered that Downââ¬â¢s condition prompts the neuropathology of Alzheimerââ¬â¢s sickness. With time, the hereditary changes in the amyloids antecedent protein have be seen as a key factor in the improvement of Alzheimerââ¬â¢s malady. Since the amyloid beta peptide has been seen as normal result of the digestion in beta amyloid forerunner protein in a personââ¬â¢s life, it very well may be estimated by utilization of a culture medium, plasma and cerebrospinal liquid. This estimates whether there are any anomalies which result from the beta amyeloid forerunner proteins (Morris et al., 2014). Be that as it may, as of late there have been protests raised against the amyloid theory. One of the protests is that the quantity of amyloid stores in the mind tissues doesn't associate with the degree of psychological disabilities that creates in a patient. In another manner, the amyloid theory brings protests since the neurotoxic impacts of the amyloid peptide and the impacts to the mind have not been concentrated in vivo. It is likewise obvious that the solvent oligomers of amyloid peptide are answerable for the brokenness in the mind as contradicted the amyloid monomers in Alzheimerââ¬â¢s sickness patients. These and numerous different complaints bolster a thinking that the neurodegeneration of the mind in Alzheimerââ¬â¢s infection is brought about by the injury from some diffused oligomeric gathering of misfolded proteins (Demetrius et al., 2015). Subsequently, the huge polymeric totals make the inert repositories which are equivalent to the neurotoxic get together. Then again, the plaques in the mind don't really demonstrate security to the host. This is on the grounds that the perception of these plaques in neurodegenerative infections implies that the store of poisonous proteins has happened in the cerebrum. Trials including transgenic mice in which the amyloid beta proteins were kept in the mind didn't demonstrate any misfortune in the psychological capacities. This sudden conduct by the transgenic mice could be because of contrasts in the species utilized, absence of human aggravation go betweens and the brief time of introduction of mice to the amyloid beta peptide. Since the Alzheimerââ¬â¢s ailment is because of absence of harmony between the affidavit and the leeway of amyloid beta peptides, at that point there is a need to get treatment methodologies for this issue. One of the methodologies would be the restraint of either the beta or the gamma secretase chemicals which are pivotal for the development of beta amyloids and amyloid forerunner proteins (Doody et al., 2014). For the beta secretase, there are some screening which is being accomplished for a concoction compound to see if it tends to have the option to tie on the dynamic site of aspartyl protease and thus cross the blo od cerebrum obstruction. For the gamma secretase, there are substance mixes which have just been found yet no clinical preliminaries have been done on people yet. In any case, it is prudent to receive increasingly extraordinary treatment drew closer for the amyloid beta related Alzheimerââ¬â¢s illness since the recently proposed methodologies have a few impediments (Karakaya et al., 2013). For example an alternate methodology that can be utilized would include the utilization of inoculation techniques. The most suggested inoculation techniques would include the utilization of amyloid beta proteins in the cerebral with the goal that they can bring down the measures of peptide leeway from the cerebrum (Aisen and Vellas, 2013). A sort of various methodology would include the utilization of calming strategies and medications to help in the freedom of the amyloid beta proteins in cerebrum tissues. The utilization of the calming techniques is recommendable in light of the fact that it has been discovered that as the amyloid proteins amass in mind tissues, the pace of provocative procedure increments. For an extensive stretch of time, the speculation concerning the relationship of amyloid beta proteins and the Alzheimerââ¬â¢s ailment has been examined. This requires the improvement of remedial procedures dependent on the counter amyloid beta peptides. So as to get treatment alternatives for this illness. The treatment therapeutics should be firmly founded on the different qualities that are seen in the amyloid peptides as for Alzheimerââ¬â¢s infection. By the selection of different techniques for treatment including amyloid forerunner protein quality cloning, the logical world will see if there is a relationship between the amyloid beta protein theory and the Alzheimerââ¬â¢s sickness. In addition, it ingrains arrangements and systems to guarantee top notch regulating standards in the modern and corporate area (Seznec 100). Various associations have extraordinary and differing working courses of action that shape their business relationship, for example, from auxiliary credits to worker conveying components at the work place. On a similar note, plan and usage of organization and national arrangements concerning different work environments against the wellbeing of representatives likewise structure necessary part mechanical relations. Mohammed and Ingo plot that work conne ctions are incredibly influenced by employeesââ¬â¢ nationalities (36). They bring up that much of the time; outside representatives are not regarded well as it is the situation is with residential workers (Mohammed and Ingo 364). Studies uncover that in specific countries, outside laborers are treated as lower residents by the separate governments. They are compelled to work without shaping or joining associations that can support for their privileges. Subsequently, they are straightforwardly denied numerous common freedoms. Distinctive global and nearby companies have different available resources of treating their laborers. Bryant and Trevor set that in the United Arab Emirates, there are a few associations which are described by representative segregation (450). The creators are very all out that a few laborers who have outside inceptions will in general experience the ill effects of mishandled terms of residency while others are tormented by poor compensation notwithstanding the way that they work with fruitful organizations (Bryant and Trevor 451). Reasons for U.S. involvement in WWI essays
Explanations behind U.S. association in WWI expositions There is more than one valid justification that we should join World War I. 1) The German government has constantly assaulted guiltless Americans on the vast ocean. Despite the fact that they vowed to quit sinking regular citizen ships, they did it once more. They didn't get it done again once, they did it again multiple times killing around 103 regular citizens. The Germans have made the Americans numerous arrangements that they would not focus on non-military boats, however never kept this guarantee. Murdering blameless regular people will not be adequate. The way that the Germans are murdering honest Americans makes the beasts. 2) We should battle for majority rules system and execute the savages, as at exactly that point the world will be ok for popular government once more. President Wilson said that we should make the world safe for majority rules system. One can sincerely say this is actually a war of savage versus popular government. All things considered, the Germans have a sovereign (a despot) and the entirety of the united countries have various types of delegate governments. 3) And once more there is another extraordinary American conviction that underpins my contention of doing battle with Germany, this one is called free enterprise. Many American banks have just made little advances to the nation of Great Britain, and a lot more to come. The more we credit England, the more back we will get. Of course, we would prefer not to lose these credits. To guarantee that we recover these advances with their advantage, Great Britain must win the war. On the off chance that Great Britain wins the war than we can be certain that we will get the money we merit in full. Also, 4) if the Germans and their partnerships win the war, they will doubtlessly attempt to overcome the remainder of the world later, including the U.S. On the off chance that the Germans were at that point executing guiltless individuals now, and were at that point not adhering to any of the ir arrangements to the U.S., what is to prevent them from attempting to assume control over America? The Germans consider themselves a domain as of now, and pride would rouse them to assume control over the res... <!

The Business of Language in To the Welsh Critic Who Doesnââ¬â¢t Find Me Identifiably Indian - Literature Essay Samples
In the poem To the Welsh Critic Who Doesnââ¬â¢t Find Me Identifiably Indian, Arundhathi Subramaniam explores the politics of language and how it affects the identity of Indian immigrants in England. She poses questions about where and with whom language belongs and implies that it is for the English to judge. Subramaniam also comments on how Indian identity is decided by the English and this is reflected on rather bitterly in the poem. The English expectations of Indian authenticity are highlighted by Subramaniam to be incorrect and slightly ridiculous. This analysis of Subramaniamââ¬â¢s position on the ââ¬Å"this business of languageâ⬠will explore these ideas further. Language plays a significant role in identity (Joseph, 2004). Language and identity have a dynamic relationship. Language creates a sense of group identity, whether it is national or ethnic. And the need for identity through expression continually shapes language. Identity itself affects the way one interprets what is said. The language one speaks identifies one to others the place which one comes from and will subsequently label one as an outsider or insider. This applies to even the way one speaks a language. Speaking a language with a different accent still alerts people to the fact that one is not the same as them. With language having such an effect on identity, it can be used to control certain groups of people. In the poem To the Welsh Critic Who Doesnââ¬â¢t Find Me Identifiably Indian, Arundhathi Subramaniam speaks about the English categorising Indians on the basis of language and how ââ¬ËIndianââ¬â¢ an Indian is behaving. The title of the poem refers to a critic from Wales. Wales has a history of fighting for the countryââ¬â¢s autonomy as they are part of the United Kingdom. They have managed to establish their own government but the United Kingdom still has ultimate power. There is the concern amongst some of the Welsh that their culture will be absorbed into English culture and so it is very relevant that the poem is addressed to a Welsh national. The Welsh would be quick to criticise anyone whom they thought was giving up their culture, especially the submission to English culture. They themselves are determined to retain their culture and identity in the face of a more powerful nation. Subramaniam is using the title of the poem to address the Welsh critic but also possibly to give a message to anyone who feels it their duty to determine anotherââ¬â¢s identity. The use of first person point of view for the speaker creates a better sense of what a person in a foreign country might feel with regards to the difficulties around adopting that language. Subramaniam begins with commenting on how the English believe that their culture and language is elite and assume that it is a goal that India wants to achieve. ââ¬ËYou believe you know meâ⬠(Subramaniam 1). The word ââ¬Ëbelieveââ¬â¢ indicates that in fact the English do not actually know the speaker and the sense of cultural arrogance is highlighted. ââ¬Å"You imagine that youââ¬â¢ve cracked / my deepest fantasyâ⬠(Subramaniam 7-8). Subramaniam mentions Dharma (Subramaniam 10), which means to have a cosmic order or purpose. This comment has a rather sardonic tone and could imply that the speaker feels the English think Indians aim for English life in an almost spiritual manner and possibly finds it offensive, or on the contrary laughable. But then the speaker creates room f or a possible argument in the third stanza when she says, ââ¬Å"You may have a pointâ⬠(Subramaniam 13). The speaker admits to not knowing much about what is supposedly Indian, namely cricket and speaking fluent Tamil. She also indicates that she agrees with some first world concepts and would enjoy certain first world luxuries such as things being ââ¬Å"odour-free, / bottled in Switzerland, / money back guaranteedâ⬠(Subramaniam 19-21). But on the contrary, ââ¬Å"You may have a pointâ⬠(Subramaniam 13), means that it is merely something to consider and not the absolute truth. These few things that the speaker admits to not being very familiar with cannot determine or declare an Indian identity untrue. In the global village that the world has become, cultural characteristics have become more of a stereotype that what truly happens in society. The aspects of European culture that the speaker comments on appreciating doesnââ¬â¢t mean that she has rejected her own culture. It is merely a new mixing and combining of cultures. But it appears that, from the comments in the poem, ââ¬Å"Smear my consonants / with cow-dung and turmeric and godhuliâ⬠(Subramaniam 48-49), that the British expect exoticism and for Indian culture to be completely opposite to English culture. One could say that the English are trying to create a new Indian identity based on a lack of understanding of Indian culture and what one could call the touristââ¬â¢s idea of India. The reference to ââ¬Å"rusticâ⬠(Subramaniam 38) implies that the English expect India to be rural. This misunderstanding possibly stems from cultural arrogance on the English side; possibly the lack of desire to get to know In dians properly. But in the poem, Subramaniam is challenging this expectation because as the title of the poem To the Welsh Critic Who Doesnââ¬â¢t Find Me Identifiably Indian indicates, the English are deciding that the Indians as not really Indian enough if they do not meet these false expectations. In line 22 ââ¬Å"This business about languageâ⬠(Subramaniam), the speaker poses the question of language and proceeds to ask who it belongs to, where is comes from and what it represents. Subramaniam uses parallelism by starting eight lines with ââ¬Å"how muchâ⬠(Subramaniam 23-30) and three lines with ââ¬Å"how I sayâ⬠(Subramaniam 31-33). This repetition suggests the complexity of this business of language and the amount of different aspects one should look at when discussing it. There are so many different questions that need to be asked. There is also the suggestion of the importance of point of view in ââ¬Å"how I sayâ⬠. Written language can be objective but verbal language is subjective in the way it is received. The shift takes place in line 34 when the speaker hands the question over to the person she is addressing: ââ¬Å"It is all yours to measureâ⬠(Subramaniam 34). She does not answer it herself. One can argue that the English are the owners of the language they speak and have a right to judge how it is spoken and perhaps the speaker is implying that in a foreign land the question isnââ¬â¢t hers to answer. The question is simultaneously rhetorical and begging an answer. Perhaps the speaker would like to answer it but feels her view would be seen as invalid. In the first four stanzas, each stanza is one sentence. The mood changes after the shift in line 34 and becomes somewhat bitter. The stanzas become longer and are broken up into sentences. The short sentences create a sense that the speaker has become irritable. The imagery becomes unpleasant. Words like ââ¬Å"Pathologyâ⬠(Subramaniam 35) and halitosis (Subramaniam 36) are used and are both associated with and create an image of disease. This could suggest that the speaker is expecting to get judged quite negatively when her speech is assessed by the English. The speaker refers to the Englishman as the ââ¬Å"Arbiter of identityâ⬠(Subramaniam 40). There is a slight sardonic tone to this address but simultaneously there is possibly recognition of the power someone has over one when one speaks their language. The speaker states rather defiantly: ââ¬Å"remake me as you willâ⬠(Subramaniam 41). It can be argued that the way an Indian person speaks English will open him/ her up to being classified by English terms according to their own understanding. This implies that the true identity of an Indian individual cannot be communicated to an English speaking person if it is not in a way that the English can understand. So in an English world it is possible for an Indianââ¬â¢s identity to be completely lost. The speaker refers to this idea of an English world in the line ââ¬Å"Teach me how to belong, / the way you do, / on every page of world historyâ⬠(Subramaniam 56-58). The English are seen to naturally have a respected place in the world. This could possibly also be commenting on how history and current affairs are mostly told from the westââ¬â¢s point of view. One could challenge the expectation of Indians having to be so-called authentic when their point of view is rarely taken into account by first world countries. This authenticity that is expected is not very respectful or of high opinion either. Imagery of Cow-dung (Subramaniam 49) and rancid sweat (Subramaniam 50-51) is used in the last stanza. They both give off unpleasant smells and paint the speaker in a rather unclean light. This could refer to how the speaker believes the English see her. The word ââ¬Å"teachâ⬠(Subramaniam 45, 56) is used twice in the last stanza. It is said in a slightly mocking tone and one could say that the speaker is only pretending to be subordinate, reflecting the English belief and missionary ideas that they can teach other cultures how to ââ¬Å"come of ageâ⬠(Subramaniam 45) and ââ¬Å"belongâ⬠(Subramaniam 56). This mocking tone perhaps indicates the feeling of the speaker that regardless of being misunderstood, Indians will retain th eir identity. But the line ââ¬Å"Grant me a visa / to the country of my birthâ⬠(Subramaniam 54, 55) does create a sense of true displacement ââ¬â to be applying as an outsider to enter the country where one was born. Where does one really belong then? One could say that Subramaniam is bridging the gap between the two cultures through language by communicating the Indian point of view in a way that the English can understand. Subramaniam gives critical comment on the assumptions made about Indians and the power of language in those assumptions. She is painting a picture of what it feels like to be on the controlled end of language, especially in a colonial setting. But Subramaniam is also making it clear that there is a true and valid Indian identity despite being misunderstood. Her critical position on the politics of language supports the Indian voice and looks at issues from a different perspective. References Joseph, J. (2004).
